Department of Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering in VVIT was established in the year 2009. Over the years, it has grown into one of the finest centers of learning in the field of civil engineering. The Department aims to bring out engineers equipped with the latest technical skills & global exposure who are ready to handle any sort of practical issue with ease with their solid theoretical background. The Department has been very proactive in industrial interaction and technology development. It has built excellent experimental and computational facilities related to Hydraulics, Geotechnical, Structural and Environmental Engineering fields.

From the HOD's Desk

Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering

One of the oldest branches of Engineering, 'Civil Engineering', known as the 'Mother of all Engineering', deals with the development of basic infrastructure required for the sustenance of the society. The department of Civil Engineering at V.V.I.T. offers Diploma in Civil Engineering, Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and Master's Degree in Structural Engineering & Construction Technology.

The department boasts of a dynamic team of faculty with the right mix of highly experienced and enthusiastic youngsters ably guided by our Principal who has a Doctoral Degree in Civil engineering. With most of the faculty from industrial background, the students are engaged in a practical approach towards the subjects. The department also has a very healthy student faculty interaction, where in there is free exchange of thoughts & knowledge.

The Department has well equipped labs & a lot of emphasis is placed on developing software skills of students which has become the need of the hour for upcoming Engineers.

  • Anil Kumar M N, M. Tech. (Construction Technology) - 2015 batch has secured 1st rank in VTU and was awarded gold medal at the 15th Annual VTU Convocation held on 27th May 2016.
  • Arpitha D J, M. Tech. (Construction Technology) - 2015 batch has secured 2nd rank in VTU.
  • Manasa B, Student of 1st Semester, M.Tech (Construction Technology), has secured 8th Rank in the first semester VTU Examination held during Jan 2016
  • Sanjay Gowda S, Student of 1st Semester, M.Tech (Construction Technology), has secured 10th Rank in the first semester VTU Examination held during Jan 2016
  • The Department of Civil Engineering successfully organized the "Second International Conference on Concrete and Construction Technology (ICCCT – 2015)" on 3rd & 4th December 2015 with over 100 delegates participating from all across India. The conference included Keynote Address by eminent personalities & paper presentation by research scholars from various institutions across India.
  • Dipendra Kumar Mandal, Student of Dept. of Civil Engineering has secured 10th rank in second semester VTU Examination held during 2014 – 15.
  • The Department has an in-house Department library with over 350 volumes of books pertaining to various subjects on Civil Engineering
  • The Department of Civil Engineering launched "Dhartee", Civil Engineering student's association in 2015. The Association managed by the students of the department under the supervision and guidance of the faculty organizes Technical visits, Workshops, Technical Quiz, Guest Lectures. The Association aims to increase the exposure of the students to the present day industry & bridge the gap between theory & practice.

1) International Conference on Civil Engineering (ICCE-2014)

The International Conference on Civil Engineering (ICCE-2014) organized as part of International Multi-Conference on Innovations in Engineering & Technology jointly by Vijaya Vittala Institute of Technology in association with Society of Information Processing (SIP) was successfully held on 21st – 23rd August 2014. The theme of ICCE-2014 was Special Concrete and Construction Technology. The Conference saw over 150 participants from India & abroad with over 36 papers presented by research scholars from various reputed institutes in India and even from countries like Australia. The Conference proceedings where brought out as a Special publication by Elsevier India.
